We would like to introduce ourselves, as you should be hearing from us quite a lot over the coming months.
Lynne and I (Wendy) are relatively new members of Abberley WI. We both joined in January 2013 when the Abberley Lives project was well underway. We were both fascinated by the interesting stories that had been unearthed already.
Lynne now lives in a converted fruit barn and was keen to find out more about the history and demise of local orchards as her garden was once a cherry orchard. My house had originally been two houses built for workers at the stud stables belonging to Lord Brooke at The Elms, so I was fascinated to learn how the estate and its workers’ lives had changed during this time.
In the coming months we will be sharing with you more of the information found during research for the Abberley Lives project. Because of the quantity of material found not all of it could be included in the book. The book itself is an attractive keepsake for anyone keen on local history. Only a few copies of this limited edition full colour book are still available. Contact us through the website to find out more.
Thank you Wendy and Lynne for continuing this website. I am excited to tell you that a gentleman who was billeted to a farm in Abberley during WW2 found this site and as a consequence is coming to Abberley later this month to revisit the farm. Sheena
