Names Found in the National Archives Relating to Abberley

Heather Rendall has been carrying out a large amount of research for our project, including searching the National Archives for names relating to Abberley.  She has displayed the names in two lists, the first showing them by date and the second alphabetically.

There are a number of names on the list that still exist in the area today.  We’d be really interested to know if you recognise any of them and could provide any further information.  Please either speak to a member of the Medieval Abberley Revealed team, or use the contact us facility on this website if you think you can help.

  1. The Old Village Stores was once known as Steadman’s so perhaps William Steedman is connected to the house in some way. There are several Steadmans in Abberley Parish records. There was a William Steadman in Captain Clent’s Company during the civil war. There is a William Steadman, churchwarden, in 1640. There are many references to the Steadmans down the years. The earliest is the christening of Joane Steadman in 1623 whose parents were William and Joane.

The other person who seems to be connected to The Old Village Stores is Anne Wharton – but I am not sure in what capacity.
